Tornado Relief
More than 50 tornadoes left a path of destruction throughout the Midwest on Friday, Dec. 10. Recent reports say more than 80 people have died, with more than one hundred others still missing. The devastation is spread over hundreds of miles.
Please pray for the all those who lost their homes and businesses, those who lost loved ones, and those who died in the storms.
The best way we can help is to donate money to the organizations leading relief efforts, like Episcopal Relief and Development and the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky.
Episcopal Relief and Development:
"We are in contact with Episcopal dioceses in the affected area," said Katie Mears, Senior Director for ERD's U.S. Disaster Program. "Our partners are assessing the needs in their communities created by the storms. We stand ready to assist in the coming days and weeks."
If you are able, please consider making a donation to ERD's US Disaster Fund. These funds will be distributed to all the areas impacted by recent storms.
The Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky:
"According to our parishes, no parishioners died in the storms," said the Rt. Rev. Terry A. White, Bishop of Kentucky, "though homes and businesses and communities are simply gone. Nothing is left."
Bishop White says they are still in the "sprint phase" of dealing with immediate needs, like providing meals, shelter, clothing, and pet food. But the Bishop says they are committed to the "marathon phase" that will follow over the coming years.
The Diocese of Kentucky has set up a Disaster Appeal Page that lists several ways you can provide financial assistance. Please consider contributing.
In Our Own Backyard:
Tornadoes also struck inside the Diocese of Missouri. If you or anyone you know is in need of assistance, please contact our Disaster Relief Coordinators:
- Janet Thompson, member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Columbia
- The Rev. Dr. Maria Evans, interim rector at Trinity Episcopal Church in Hannibal
THANK YOU for your prayers and your financial contributions.
