The Rev. Mark Kozielec announces retirement
July 25, 2023
After serving as the rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in St. Louis for 11 years, the Rev. Mark Kozielec is retiring.
In a letter to his congregation, Mark says he remembers the old-fashioned “pounding” he received when he first came to St. Louis – members welcomed him with a pound of flour, a pound of sugar, and other pantry staples to see him and his husband Chuck through their early days in a new place.
“That incredible abundance of welcome would be the thread that has woven itself throughout our time together these last 11 years,” Mark wrote.
Mark’s last Sunday at St. Mark’s will be August 27. He is taking a two-month sabbatical and will officially retire October 31. He and Chuck are moving to New Jersey, where they both grew up and have family and friends.
We are grateful to Mark for his good and faithful service to St. Mark’s and the Diocese of Missouri. We send our prayers and best wishes with Mark and Chuck as they begin this new chapter of their lives.
The congregation of St. Mark’s is in conversation with the diocesan office to make plans to welcome a new priest at the south St. Louis parish.
