St. Barnabas' new Bread Basket Ministry is showcasing our hospitality and helping us make new connections in our neighborhood. Every Tuesday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. we give away bread and pastries donated to us from Panera.
We have been meeting new neighbors and helping families that have need in our community. We also offer coffee and tea for anyone that would that would like a cup and a space to sit down and enjoy some conversation. We have heard stories of how this helps stretch the budget for a mom with five children. Another person has recently taken in family members to care for them and this helps with his grocery bills as well. Just hearing that we are making a difference brings so much joy.
In addition to our neighbors, the facilitator for the Florissant senior center comes every week to pick up a bag of bagels. The senior center bought a toaster and the seniors now enjoy a snack while they play bingo each week.
We have also formed a partnership with the retirement community just down the street. They bring us snacks to put out in our "Little Pantry" and they want to know about things we do that could involve their seniors.
Each week this continues to grow and reach new people. The last two weeks, we have run out of bread. (If we do have any leftovers, the food is dropped off at TEAM - a local food pantry.)
