March 8: Wednesday in the Second Week of Lent
Read
Jeremiah 18:1–11,18–20 | Come, go down to the potter’s house, and there I will let you hear my words.
Pray
Source of Being,
Where can we go to hide from your love?
In the valley of the shadow, you are there,
In the dark night of the soul, you are there,
In the depth of deep despair, you are there.
Refine us in your never-failing love,
Remold us in your eternal presence,
Revive us in your abiding hope,
That we may rise on the wings of the morning,
And abide always as the apple of your eye. Amen.
Reflect
“I am the potter; you are the clay.” If you ever visit a potter’s studio you will quickly realize that it is a very messy place, filled with creations on multiple stages of completion. But the most fascinating aspect of pottery making is the remaking, the remolding.
Every once in a while the potter will craft a piece almost to completion, having spent hours molding and shaping, plying and coaxing the clay into the desired shape – then quickly restarting the project when the end seems near. It can be frustrating, but creation is a labor of love.
God reminds us that God is the potter and we are the clay, and we often need to be shaped and re-shaped until we reflect God’s purpose for us. Not an easy process, but sometimes a necessary and needed process. We are on a journey of being molded and coaxed closer and closer to being what God intends us to be.
Do
Write a note to someone going through a difficult situation.
