March 6: Monday in the Second Week of Lent
Read
Daniel 9:3–10 | We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.
Pray
We forget sometimes, that we are made for goodness.
We forget sometimes, that we are made for love.
We forget sometimes, that we each are called beloved.
We forget sometimes, that we are bearers of hope.
We forget sometimes, that we are to lights to the nations.
We forget sometimes, that we are prophets of justice.
We forget sometimes O God, we forget.
Remind us of your goodness, love, belovedness,
hope, light, and justice when we forget,
that we are made in your divine image. Amen.
Reflect
We are called to point to a God of extraordinary surprises! A God who routinely calls the unqualified, the unknown, the underdog to be God’s messenger. Have you ever noticed that God rarely calls those with power and prestige? Have you noticed that God does not often use those who have authority and earthly power to accomplish great things? Think of almost every great movement in history and it is often the regular, run of the mill, ordinary people that best hear and respond to God’s call to service.
God needs you! The prophet voice for change in our world is you. You are called to be the one who points to the kingdom of heaven. You are the nobody that God is able to use to accomplish God’s mission and work in our world. Yours are the hands, the voice, the feet that God uses to point towards Jesus, the salvation of the world. If this God is able in the time of power, privilege, and prestige to call a nobody, how much more is God able to call us?
Do
Pray for someone with whom you disagree.
