March 24: Friday in the Fourth Week of Lent
Read
John 7:1–2,10,25–30 | Jesus said, “You know me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on my own.”
Pray
O God, you call us to be still
and know that you are God.
You remind us that you are doing more
for us than we could ever imagine;
and yet we preoccupy ourselves
with bread of toil and wine of busyness.
Call us to a place of rest and renewal,
that we may, in the varied tasks
and temptations of this day,
find your footprints among the hushed recesses of our labor;
Through Christ our Savior. Amen.
Reflect
How are you known?
In the TV show Cheers, from the early 1990’s, everyone knows your name. The show’s theme song claimed that Cheers was the place, “Where everyone knows your name, and they’re always glad you came.” Whenever a character entered the bar, they were greeted by name by every patron.
I imagine heaven to be a bit like Cheers. God knows our name, but more than that, God knows us completely, not just the parts we share with the world but our true-selves. To be fully known by God means that even though we sometimes feel less-than, or when we are not our best selves, God still claims us in our fullness as beloved. There is grace in being known and held by a loving God.
Do
Share your story of being known by God with someone else. Listen to their story.
