March 21: Tuesday in the Fourth Week of Lent
Read
Psalm 46 | God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth be moved, and though the mountains be toppled into the depths of the sea.
Pray
You have already lost.
You who trade in violence,
who dwell in hate, who peddle tools of destruction.
You have already lost!
You have lost because Love will have the last word.
You have lost because goodness will not sit silent.
You have lost because just may be delayed but is never denied.
So we give them back to God, the stories untold, the lives unfinished, the journeys cut short.
And we cry out, “When?!” When will it end? When will our leaders act? When will we declare, “Enough!”
God is our refuge and strength, and so we take refuge in the God who calls us each beloved, and find strength to fight for justice and lasting peace. Amen.
Reflect
How do you rest in the arms of our loving God?
The psalmist calls us to cast our cares, fears, and tears on God. That is hard work. We like to be self-reliant. We want to maintain the “stiff upper-lip.” But then there are those moments when we are driven to our knees that we recognize that we need God.
What would it look like to begin with relying on God’s grace rather than being driven to it?
Do
Spend some time today in silence and in rest.
