March 2: Thursday in the First Week of Lent
Read
Matthew 7:7-12 | Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.
Pray
Bless the path unfolding before us,
Bless the potholes and the rough spots,
Bless the valleys and the mountains.
May you see the journey as the path of love,
May you see the speed bumps as part of the path,
May you find in the twists and turns the forming resilience and hope.
May you love the journey and embrace the path and see God as a companion along the way. Amen.
Reflect
We are not very good at asking for help. As Americans we have an ingrained sense of being “self-made.” We pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, dust ourselves off, and get on with the work before us.
But our faith in Jesus Christ reminds us that we are never alone and that we don’t journey along the pilgrim way of Christianity on our own. We need each other and we need to ask for help along the way.
There is no shame in asking. Jesus invites us to knock, seek, and ask for the things we need. To ask is to pray. Prayer is putting into words the longings of our hearts and recognizing that we rely on the grace and mercy of a loving God.
Do
Spend some time today thinking about the people who have helped you along the way. Say a prayer of thanks for their presence along your journey.Tags: 2023 Lenten Meditations
