March 16: Thursday in the Third Week of Lent
Read
Jeremiah 7:23–28 | Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk only in the way that I command you, so that it may be well with you.
Pray
O Divine Creator, there are times
when the path ahead seems bleak;
when the road we travel seems never-ending;
when the journey seems to be in vain;
when we are ready to give up and give in.
In those times, help us to listen,
for the whisper of your voice, “Be still!”
for the beating of your heart, “I am with you!”
for the rhythm of your breath, “Hold on!”
for the singing in lament, “Fear not!”
On the path, along the road, in the journey,
remind us that you are God who walks with us,
even in the valley of the shadow of death.
Lift us up, dust us off, and point us home to you;
In Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
Reflect
Where do you find it hard to be obedient?
Obedience finds is origin in Latin oboedire, and translates as, “in the direction of hearing.” It means that obedience is about discerning, perceiving, and distinguishing which direction to attune our ears. God invites us to be obedient to God’s voice. The challenge for us is to determine where God’s voice summons and orienting our lives in that direction.
Do
Read the 3rd Chapter of the Book of the Prophet Micah (no worries, it’s short).
