March 1: Wednesday in the First Week of Lent
Read
Psalm 51:11-18 | Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Pray
Ours is a faith,
of mustard seeds and mangers,
of widows and witches,
of pearls and preachers,
of burning bushes and bored bridesmaids.
Ours is a God,
of the broken and the belittled,
of the fainthearted and the friendless,
of the lost and the left behind.
of the maligned and the marginalized.
Help us then, O God, to have appallingly low standards in the sharing of your love; through Christ our Redeemer. Amen.
Reflect
We are surrounded by many injustices in our world. We see division and distrust like a roaring lion. But we serve a God who is always calling us towards righteousness and justice.
When it looks like injustice will have the last word, when it looks like evil has triumphed, when it looks as though the light has been consumed, when hope unborn has died, God calls forth resurrection! God is in the business of transformation when we are willing to partner with God in building a new and better world, when we are willing to get out of the way of God and allow God to be simply God. God create us new – new hearts, new spirits, new faith. When we are cleansed from the things that hold us back and bind us down, we are cleansed for the work ahead.
Do
Wash the dishes by hand. Say a prayer for God’s cleansing presence.
