Lenten Study from Calvary, Columbia

Sunday, February 28, 2021, 10:15 AM

Ceremonies for remembrance and release

This three-part series will invite us deep into the heart of who we are as Christians and explore how liturgy and Scripture invite us to consider our own necessary ceremonies for remembrance and release. Our presenter, Kim Becker, will draw on her ministry as priest and poet, weaving Episcopal tradition with personal experience informed by her Cherokee heritage. She will also share from her latest book that takes its shape from the Cherokee ceremony for the dead.

Not a poetry-lover? No problem! This will be part presentation, part discussion with no poetry skills or affinity necessary.

  • February 28: At Home in the Wilderness
  • March 7: The Power of Ceremony
  • March 14: The Call to Transformation
  • 10:15-11am via Zoom invitation
  • These discussions will not be recorded to afford open and honest conversation.
About the Facilitator: Kim Becker is an Episcopal priest of Cherokee descent, who has served as rector, hospice chaplain, ICU chaplain, and racial healing leader. Her parallel vocation is as a poet and she is author of four collections from national presses. For more about her literary work visit www.kimberlylbecker.com This class will draw on her most recently released book, Flight, available on Amazon, although not required reading for participation. Scholarships are available to purchase Kim’s book if needed - contact Mother Valori

We believe in a loving, life-giving and liberating God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe God loves you -- no exceptions!

We invite you to be a part of our faith journey.

The Rt. Rev. Deon K. Johnson is the leader of our diocese. He was elected as our bishop on Nov. 23, 2019, and ordained on June 13, 2020, at Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis.

Learn More

Approximately 10,000 people throughout Eastern and Central Missouri find their faith home with us. About three-quarters of our members are in the metro St. Louis area, but our diocese reaches much farther than St. Louis. You will find more than 40 Episcopal churches, missions and faith communities as far north as Kirksville, as far west as Columbia, and as far south as Poplar Bluff (and many points in between).

If you are looking for a church home or a just a faith community to visit, we invite you to explore The Episcopal Diocese of Missouri.
