Feb. 28: Tuesday in the First Week of Lent
Read
Isaiah 55:6–11 | For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Pray
O Holy Wisdom,
Inspiration of authors and artists,
Imagination of poets and preachers,
Instruction of seers and sages;
So inspire our minds, so stir our imaginations, so instruct our wisdom, so use our wills. Teach us to dwell in the ways of Wisdom and to seek after the wanderings of Love; that as we dwell in hope for the in-breaking of the awaited One we may open our hearts to the wisdom of the ages and the joys of time. Amen.
Reflect
“If only everyone agreed with me the world would be a better place!”
At some point in our lives, we have all thought some variation of this theme. If only others would get onboard with my way of thinking, my way of being, my way of doing, we would be better off. But thanks be to God that is not the case.
History is littered with the ruins of those who tried to impose their will, their thoughts, their ideology on others. It is in our collective listen, in the midst of many voices, that we discern God’s will for us. God’s thoughts are not contained in the one, but dispersed among the many. It is our variety that we can begin to understand God’s completeness.
Perhaps our call for this time is to listen deeply and perchance hear the voice of God.
Do
Spend some time today in deliberate silence.
