Feb. 22: Ash Wednesday
“Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in.” -Isaiah 58:12
Read:
- Isaiah 58:1-12
Pray:
O God, you form us from the dust of the earth and to the dust you call us to return. Help us in this transitory life, to hold fast to your never-failing love, that walking the way of the wilderness, we may with our lives and our living be fashioned into a people of compassion, mercy, and joy; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
Reflect:
We are dust. We are the stuff of dust.
Scientists tell us that the average person breathes in 50 billion particles of dust in an hour. We are literally the stuff of dust. So it is no accident that God created us out of the dust of the earth and breathed the breath of life into us. We are dust and yet we are animated by the Ruach, essences of the One who created the cosmos.
We may be the stuff of dust, but we are infused and steeped in the very being of God. Today we are reminded of our mortality and returning to the dust. But we are also reminded that we are the stuff of God, and even in our returning to the dust, we return to God.
Act:
Tell someone what you are grateful for them.
