Welcome Bishop Marc Andrus
This year’s preacher and forum leader is The Rt. Rev. Dr. Marc Andrus, Bishop of the Diocese of California and a leading voice in the Creation Care and Climate Justice ministry of the Church and a leading Episcopal voice for climate action and advocacy. Each year, he leads an Episcopal Church delegation to the UN Climate Conference (COP) to advocate on behalf of those most vulnerable to the devastating effects of climate change. Under his leadership, the Episcopal Church in the Bay Area has adopted numerous policies and practices that help congregations and individuals make creation care a vital part of spiritual life. You can learn more about Bishop Andrus at www.diocal.org.
Creation Care for the Future
The Rev. Kevin McGrane, Diocesan Creation Care Missioner, will lead a short presentation at 4 p.m. entitled “Solarpunk: Creation Care for the Future.” Solarpunk is about finding ways to make life more wonderful for us right now, and also for the generations that follow us. It emphasizes environmental sustainability and social justice and wants to counter the scenarios of a dying earth, an insuperable gap between rich and poor, and a society controlled by corporations. (A.K.A, a dystopian cyberpunk world.) Solarpunk is a new way of living, not in hundreds of years but within reach. Solarpunk culture includes all cultures, religions, abilities, sexes, genders and sexual identities. Solarpunk is the idea of humanity achieving a social evolution that embraces not just mere tolerance, but a more expansive compassion and acceptance. This presentation will take place on the second floor tech room.
Evensong and Reception
Following Rev. Kevin’s presentation, end the day with a wonderful Creation Care Evensong at 5 p.m. The service of prayers and music is directed by Connor Scott, the Cathedral's Director of Music, and the excellent Cathedral Choir. A reception will follow.
