A Journey Through Advent: Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021
by Dewayne Trainer,
Senior Warden at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Ladue
Today's readings: Psalm 34:1–8; Zephaniah 3:1–2,9–13; Matthew 21:28-32 NRSV
Meditation (A Prayer):
Dear Lord, forgive me for the times I have been like the first son – argumentative, difficult, and at first, unwilling to do what was asked of me. Thank you for times when you have weighed upon my conscience, encouraging a change of heart, and giving me the strength to do my part.
Forgive me also for the times I have been like the second son – agreeing to take on some task, then getting distracted, too busy, over extended or hoping that “the ask” might just be forgotten, all the while not remaining true to my word and letting others down. Thank you for the understanding and forgiveness others have afforded me. Thank YOU for YOUR love and patience with me.
Praise to you Lord for being a god of second chances. As we prepare for your coming, please help me know when to say "yes" and when to say "no" - so that I can make room in my life for the things I do take on and perform them graciously, dependably and to the best of my ability.
All this in your name, Amen.
