A Journey Through Advent: Monday, Dec. 6

Today's readings: Psalm 85:8–13, Isaiah 35:1–10, Luke 5:17–26
Imagine: The huge Babylonian empire has conquered your tiny nation of Judah, and you and the survivors have been exiled to this strange land. You are grieving and afraid. But this preacher named Isaiah says God is going to rescue you and bring you all back home.
When? How?
Isaiah doesn’t know. He just keeps saying it will happen, in God’s own time, so let’s trust.
You can probably relate to some of what Judah was experiencing. You’re waiting, too — for Christmas, a prayer to be answered, clarity about what to do next, healing in body or spirit, peace, justice, this world to look more like heaven.
In Advent, we learn how to wait. Isaiah teaches us to wait with trust in God even though we don’t know God’s timetable or plan, to sit calmly in uncertainty trusting the unknown future to the known God who will provide everything we need.
Today, let’s take a moment of silence together. Imagine yourself handing your questions, worries, struggles over to God. Breathe in peace. God will show up and answer your prayers, in God’s way, in God’s time.
