The Rev. Janet Elaine Schisser
Ordained in the Diocese of Oklahoma, June 2006. Resided in the Oklahoma City Metropolitan area for 60+ years. Moved to Columbia, MO in February 2009 to live near my two sons and their families. I now have 7 grandchildren who all live in Columbia.
I graduated with a BBA from the University of Oklahoma, with a major in Accounting, minor in Finance. Enjoyed a 40 year long career until I retired form the Corporate world in 2003. I often use my financial background in ministry.
In Columbia, I am very involved in ministries to the homeless, including serving as Coordinator for the Room at the Inn emergency winter shelter project. This project is an interfaith effort, and has introduced me to many, many pastors and lay people from several faith communities. I'm also on the Board of Directors of the Columbia Interfaith Resource Center (CIRC) which operates a daytime resource center for the homeless and at-risk clientele.
Another ministry I work in is Kairos Outside, which ministers to women whose lives have been impacted by the incarceration of relatives or friends. Much of this work is done in the St. Louis area, so I travel I-70 very often.
My former work at St. Matthew's tuaght me about the life of a small rural parish, which was a new experience for this city-girl. I loved the congregation and working with Chris Cobb, the Rector.
