Diocesan Religious celebrate Saint Francis
by Br. Franklin Kline OP
Members of Religious Orders and Communities from throughout the Diocese of Missouri will join together Virtually at 4:30 PM via Zoom on Saturday, October 3, 2020. The date marks the Eve of The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Our Diocesan Franciscans, members of The Order of Saint Francis and the 3rd Order Society of St. Francis will lead us in the traditional Franciscan Liturgy of the Translation of St. Francis commemorating the founder of the Franciscan Order. Rev. Dn. Barbi Click of Christ Church Cathedral, who serves as Guardian of The Rivendell Community, will be our homilist. We will remain together for fellowship following the service.
This is the first anniversary of our periodic occasions for worship and fellowship. A long anticipated initial gathering of Diocesan Religious was held in October 2019 at Christ Church Cathedral on the Feast of St. Francis, drawing members of The Anglican Dominicans, The Anamchara Fellowship, and the Rivendell Community along with Franciscans. At the February 2020 meeting at Church of The Advent, members of The Daughters of The King and The Brotherhood of St. Andrew also participated. Members of The Anamchara Fellowship led worship according to their Order’s Celtic tradition. In July Friars of The Anglican Order of Preachers (Dominicans) led Evening Prayer in the Dominican tradition on the occasion of the Feast of St. Benedict of Nursia. The Homily was delivered by Rev. Amy Fallon, Vicar of Trinity Church in Kirksville, a Benedictine oblate attached to Holy Wisdom Monastery in Wisconsin. We were honored to have Bishop Deon Johnson and Christ Church Cathedral Dean Kathie Adams-Shepherd join us on this occasion.
Participants are primarily engaged in “The New Monasticism”, dispersed orders and communities living under a rule of life; they are both clergy and lay, with lay members usually engaged in secular careers, while ministering and serving in their respective dioceses and communities. All those in the diocese who are members of communities living under vows, promises, or covenants, and following a religious rule of life are warmly invited to join in the gathering. Please also plan to join in if you may be interested in learning more about the various forms of the religious life as are expressed within the Episcopal Church and broader Anglican Communion.
