My name is Maddy Bishop and I am so excited to be doing another year with Deaconess Anne House! I was born and raised in Wichita, KS, where I attended Friends University. In December of 2019, I graduated with a degree in Psychology. After graduating, I moved to St. Louis in January to start a year and a half with DAH.

I first found my way to St. Louis through a summer internship in 2019 with Christ Church Cathedral. I worked closely with Dean Kathie and learned so much about parish ministry. I made so many incredible relationships at both the Cathedral and in the greater Episcopal community here that I knew I wanted to come back as soon as I could. One of my duties as the Cathedral intern was to help out with Camp Phoenix at the Dubois Center in Illinois. I actually first met Mtipe last summer when he was working on the Dubois camp staff.

I have been working with Rockwell House Episcopal Campus Ministry since January and will continue working there this year. Similar to everyone else, our programming looks quite a bit different this year. We are having our first outdoor Eucharist service on Sunday and will continue to do so until the weather no longer allows. Wednesday night bible study, what we call The Feast, is our large group gathering of the week. We will meet on Zoom for bible study and social justice discussions along with check-ins and compline. Something new we are doing this year is small groups. Groups will discern together whether to meet on Zoom or occasionally meet in-person for masked and distanced gatherings. These small groups are a place for folks to be real and share in our lives together as people of faith. Our student leaders are leading the undergrad small groups while I will lead the graduate student group.

I’m not sure what my next steps will be after this year with DAH ends. I am currently in the early stages of the discernment process in the diocese of Kansas. Wherever the discernment process leads me, I am excited to partner with God in whatever it is God is doing in the world.
