Dear Friends in the Risen Christ,

As we begin a new ministry together during an unprecedented time in our nation and in our world, I invite you to gather as the Body of Christ here in the Diocese of Missouri.

The 181st Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri will be held November 19-21, 2020, and it will be virtual! We will gather and pray together as we face our current realities and lean into our shared future in leading our diocese.

Our convention team is planning an event to bring the entire diocesan household together for a time of “Dreaming. Daring. Doing: Together in Christ.”  Our Convention will be a time to dream of new possibilities, to dare more boldly in ministry, and to do more together intentionally.

Our Annual Diocesan Convention is a time to celebrate the interconnected life of our diocese. Although 2020 has brought considerable challenges to our lives, it has also brought much creativity, innovation, and joy. I invite all convention delegates as well as all members of our diocese to be a part of our celebration!

Highlights include:

  • A livestream worship service featuring the Bishop’s address
  • An online ministry fair open to everyone to showcase the great ministry being lived out in our diocese.
  • A special keynote from Ambassador Reuben E. Brigety II, Vice-Chancellor at Sewanee, the University of the South.
  • The 181st business meeting of the Diocesan Convention -- the 1st on Zoom!

The convention planning team recognizes the challenges that an all online gathering might pose for those with limited technology experience and hardware. The diocese will do all we can to ensure accessibility for those wanting to participate. We are excited about the opportunity to experience the Holy Spirit in new and creative ways.

Please check this website, our weekly iSeek email, and parish mailings for updated convention details, including how to submit resolutions and make nominations for diocesan leadership positions. Take note: all resolutions and nominations must be submitted by September 30.

I ask for your cooperation, patience and prayers as we move forward with our plans. We are called at this time to engage each other in “Dreaming. Daring. Doing; Together in Christ.”

Be well. Stay safe. Wash your hands. Wear a mask. Pray often. May God continue to richly bless and keep us all.

Yours in Christ,

The Rt. Rev. Deon K. Johnson
