Convention Wrap: Resolutions

The Rev. Kelly Carlson, chair of the Resolutions Committee, presented four resolutions at this year’s convention. All were approved:

  1. Clergy Compensation:
    Diocesan Council submitted a clergy compensation package which reflects a 1.5% increase from last year. This increase is based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Consumer Price Index-Midwest Urban Consumers.

  2. Establishing a Diocesan Liturgical Commission:
    The West Convocation submitted a resolution calling for the establishment of a Diocesan Liturgical Commission. This commission will engage interested worshipping communities within our diocese to consider new liturgical texts and share information with the Task Force on Liturgical and Prayer Book Revision.

  3. Reaffirming and Renewing a call for an Episcopal City Mission Sunday Annual Observance:
    The Board of Episcopal City Mission submitted this resolution to encourage all congregations in our diocese to observe the Last Sunday after Epiphany each year as Episcopal City Mission Sunday and to recognize and support ECM’s ministry of providing chaplains and programs to children in the juvenile justice system. This is renewing a resolution passed by the 2004 diocesan convention. ECM is marking its 65th year of ministry in 2019.

  4. Addressing the Epidemic of Addictive Drugs:
    Our Diocesan General Convention Deputation submitted this resolution in response to a call from the 79th General Convention to provide resources for training, pastoral care, and liturgy to address the opioid epidemic and all that of addictive drugs. The resolution also calls for the Episcopal Recovery Ministries be reestablished in our diocese.

The Rev. Kelly Carlson also presented numerous courtesy resolutions, honoring individuals, congregations and ministries for outstanding service and celebrating milestone anniversaries.
