Episcopal City Mission is a nonprofit whose mission is "Chaplaincy providing support, hope, and healing to children in the juvenile justice system." ECM's chaplains primarily provide a ministry of presence, spiritual programming, and pastoral care to youth ages 11 to 17 in the St. Louis City and County Detention Centers, along with some services at Missouri Hills, a Division of Youth Services facility. ECM recently began providing community-based chaplaincy with "court-involved" youth in the community.
Based on their mission, ECM is always looking for resources to enhance or validate the value of the chaplaincy services they provide. This search led them to Dr. Beckner's book, which they now use as part of their training and orientation for new chaplains or interns.
