Discernment: A Lifelong Spiritual Practice, conference Sept. 15
How do we answer life's big questions?
How do we identify potential leaders of all orders of ministry?
How do we grow into God's call for us in every stage of life?
The Commission on Ministry invites the diocese to a Discernment Conference, Saturday September 15, 2018 from 10:00am until 5:30pm at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion in University City.
Our featured speaker will be the Rev. Melanie Mullen who serves as the Episcopal Church’s Director of Reconciliation, Justice & Creation Care--charged with bringing the Jesus Movement to the concerns of the world. Prior to joining the Presiding Bishop’s staff she was the Downtown Missioner at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, leading a historic southern congregation’s missional, civic, and reconciliation ministries. Melanie will lead a discussion about discernment as a lifelong spiritual practice, the ongoing work of all Christians.
In addition to Melanie's presentations, there will be two workshop tracks: one looking more generally at discernment as a spiritual discipline, and another outlining specifically how the church identifies and accompanies potential deacons and priests in their formation for ministry. Those who are interested in the discernment process and members of discernment committees are especially encouraged to attend!
After the event there will be a dinner with Melanie Mullen, the Commission on Ministry, and those considering discernment for holy orders.
