Disaster Preparedness

Floods... tornadoes... ice storms... civil unrest... pandemics...

Disasters can and do happen in our diocese. The bishop has appointed the Rev. Dr. Maria Evans (interim rector at Christ Church, Rolla) and Janet Thompson (Calvary, Columbia) as our diocesan disaster coordinators. Their role is to help people and parishes respond and recover when disaster strikes.

These coordinators are our diocesan liaisons to Episcopal Relief & Development, the international relief and development agency of the Episcopal Church. ERD's four program areas include alleviating hunger and improving food supply; creating economic opportunities and strengthening communities; promoting health and fighting disease; and responding to disasters and rebuilding communities.

They also work with ERD's U.S. Disaster Program. Its mission is to inspire, connect, and equip leaders of U.S. dioceses in the Episcopal Church to prepare for hazards that might affect their communities, to mitigate the impact of disasters, and to help vulnerable people make a full and sustained recovery.

Approximately 10,000 people throughout Eastern and Central Missouri find their faith home with us. About three-quarters of our members are in the metro St. Louis area, but our diocese reaches much farther than St. Louis. You will find more than 40 Episcopal churches, missions and faith communities as far north as Kirksville, as far west as Columbia, and as far south as Poplar Bluff (and many points in between).

If you are looking for a church home or a just a faith community to visit, we invite you to explore The Episcopal Diocese of Missouri.
