Children, Youth and Young Adult Ministries

The Diocese of Missouri offers many Christian formation programs for children, youth and young adults. We also offer resources, workshops and support for those leading ministries on the parish level.
We generally consider the following ages when identifying groups:
- Children: through age 13
- Youth: ages 13-18
- Young Adult: ages 18-30
We encourage you to explore the topics below and the ministries listed in the menu to the right for programs and resources.
Holy Baptism is the full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body, the Church. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble. (BCP, p. 298)
All people of any age are welcome to be baptized in the Episcopal Church. Please contact us or your local parish if you are interested in this sacrament.

Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.
Each parish conducts their own confirmation classes. Bishop Deon Johnson conducts the sacrament of confirmation during regular parish visits and at annual diocesan confirmation services.
Some special circumstances are considered during the pandemic. Please contact Jillian Smith in the Bishop's Office to make arrangements for the sacrament of confirmation.

The main role of Youth Ministry on the diocesan level is to support parishes in their individual ongoing Youth Ministry programs. We aim to help create a network of youth and youth workers and a feeling of community within the diocese. Throughout the year, the diocese hosts and promotes events for youth with the goal of strengthening the relationships of youth across the diocese.
We are aided in this work by the Diocesan Youth Advisory Council (DYAC), a group of youth from across the Diocese who assist with planning and publicizing diocesan youth events, and work with the Canon for Christian Formation to create a vision for diocesan youth ministry.

Young adults (ages 18-30) are vital to the life of our church! All of our parishes welcome young adults to be a part of their communities and The Diocese of Missouri offers additional ways for young adults to engage in our church and our community.
