Strategic Visioning Update: March 20

The Strategic Visioning Committee has been working for more than a month to define a new direction forward for our diocese. They will be revealing new mission and vision statements after Easter Week.

As we move forward in our planning process, the committee is now looking for members from throughout the diocese to serve in their "working groups." These groups will consider ways to implement our new vision, focusing on five specific areas:

  • Communication & Technology
    - Building relationships across the diocese and between congregations
    - Using technology to serve our neighbors
    - Enhancing technology capacity for every congregation and facility

  • Evangelism & Justice
    - Redefining evangelism
    - Understanding justice as being in relationship with the marginalized
    - Promoting justice as the primary theme of ministries across the diocese
    - Deconstructing the Church's traditional "membership" and "outreach" mentality

  • Community Building & Structure
    - Building relationships with our neighbors and other parts of our communities
    - Including marginalized people
    - Redefining what a church community looks like
    - Offering new models of faith community for experimentation
    - Creating innovative ways of being one Church in many locations

  • Pastoral Care & Stewardship
    - Taking care of each other
    - Using our energy and resources to meet our mission
    - Overlapping with community building to serve our neighbors and wider communities
    - Addressing Creation Care, while also engaging younger generations

  • Formation & Worship
    - Offering lifelong learning and discernment for lay people and clergy
    - Emphasizing formation for younger generations
    - Offering multiple ways of worship that are invitational and accessible
    - Building our individual and collective relationships with God

Welcome from Our Bishop Find a Church Diocesan Calendar Clergy Resources

We believe in a loving, life-giving and liberating God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe God loves you -- no exceptions!

We invite you to be a part of our faith journey.

The Rt. Rev. Deon K. Johnson is the leader of our diocese. He was elected as our bishop on Nov. 23, 2019, and ordained on June 13, 2020, at Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis.

Learn More

Approximately 10,000 people throughout Eastern and Central Missouri find their faith home with us. About three-quarters of our members are in the metro St. Louis area, but our diocese reaches much farther than St. Louis. You will find more than 40 Episcopal churches, missions and faith communities as far north as Kirksville, as far west as Columbia, and as far south as Poplar Bluff (and many points in between).

If you are looking for a church home or a just a faith community to visit, we invite you to explore The Episcopal Diocese of Missouri.
