Brotherhood of St. Andrew
The Vision of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew is to inspire, empower and equip men and boys to fulfill the Great Commission. ALL are welcome to join our discussions and fellowship which take place on the second Thursday of each month.
Our next meeting will take place in the Sverdrup Room at the Church of St Michael and St George starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8.
If you can’t come to our discussions, please pray for us that we will be emboldened and enabled to fulfill our mission (see below).
Our theme for this year is Discipleship and for the next meeting we are looking at the Discipline of Study.
Please use our study guide which is: Spiritual Classics: Selected Readings on the Twelve Spiritual Disciplines
The section on the Discipline of Study starts on page 77 and we have selected readings (one for each week) as follows:
- Week Beginning November 13 - Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost - Proper 28 = Page 79 George MacDonald The Cause of Spiritual Stupidity
- Week Beginning November 20 - Last Sunday after Pentecost: Christ the King - Proper 29 = Page 86 Lilias Trotter The Secret of Leadership
- Week Beginning November 27 - First Sunday of Advent = Page 93 J. B. Phillips Three New Testament Serendipities
- Week Beginning December 4 - Second Sunday of Advent = Page 99 Phoebe Palmer Is There Not a Shorter Way?
Study is one of our key disciplines as members of the Brotherhood of St Andrew: From the website https://brothersandrew.net/
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew
Vision: To inspire, empower and equip men and boys to fulfill the Great Commission.
Resolved that the 78th General Convention encourage and support dioceses and congregations in their efforts to develop and expand Ministry to Men throughout the Episcopal Church, and to mentor and raise up the next generation of young men throughout The Episcopal Church.
Mission: To bring men and youth to Christ.
The Brotherhood endeavors to accomplish this mission through the threefold disciplines of Prayer, Study and Service.
Disciplines of Prayer, Study, and Service:
- Discipline of Prayer. To pray daily for the spread of Christ's kingdom, especially among men and youth, and for God's blessings upon the labors of the Brotherhood.
- Discipline of Study. To study the Holy Scriptures regularly and the teachings of the Church, to attain a better understanding of how to follow Christ and bring others into his kingdom.
- Discipline of Service. To make continuous efforts, week by week, to bring others nearer to Christ through his Church.
