Public Advocacy Update: Anti-trans bills
by the Rev. Dr. Teresa Mithen Danieley

(Feb. 9, 2023)
Thank you to everyone in the Diocese who has taken action against the two dozen anti-trans and anti-LGBTQIA+ bills being heard in the Missouri Legislature right now! Along with destroying the 115 year old grassroots ballot initiative process, these anti-trans bills are THE legislative priority of the Legislative leadership. Neither priority seems to be in line with the state motto: “The welfare of the people shall be the supreme law.”
Please keep calling, writing & showing up in Jefferson City to tell Missouri legislators that these anti-trans bills are harmful & unnecessary AND share the Good News that we in the Episcopal Church baptize, name authentically, marry & ordain trans people because all people are God's people - deserving of dignity, authenticity and love.

Fighting these anti-trans & anti-queer bills is also the primary focus of the Missouri Equity Education Partnership (MOEEP) right now. Many of these Anti-Trans bills are also anti-public education bills, placing limits on the ability of teachers and school staff to care for their trans students. The MOEEP Lobby Day is this Thursday, February 9 and there is still time to sign up!
Next week's Public Advocacy post will focus on the Legislative attacks on the Missouri Ballot Initiative Process.
