More than 60 people from throughout the Diocese of Missouri came to the beautifully decorated Christ Church Cathedral on Saturday, Dec. 31 for a New Year's Eve Taizé service.
A welcome greeting from Dean Kathie Adams-Shepherd and a special blessing for the New Year from Bishop Deon Johnson bookended this special worship service. The event was offered by the Confluence Center for Spirituality.
Worship in the Taizé tradition features chants, scripture, meditative silence, and prayer. Musicians included Arianna Aerie, a soloist from St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ladue; David Sinden, pianist and Director of Music at St. Peter's; and Lura Koch, who offered Renaissance and Baroque music on recorders.
The Rev. Susan Skinner and Jerry Cooper, both board members of Confluence, served as officiants at the service. After the service, participants enjoyed a toast to the New Year with sparkling non-alcoholic beverages.
This was the first time the annual service was offered since 2019, as the COVID pandemic led to cancellations in 2020 and 2021.
Confluence: A Center for Spirituality, is a "roofless" community dedicated to helping people deepen and enrich their spiritual lives by providing opportunities and resources for spiritual formation.
