March 19: The Fourth Sunday of Lent
Where do we find joy?
How do we live lives of joy in a seemingly joy-less world?
We look to Jesus.
Think of the interactions of Jesus with those he healed. Jesus healed Bartimaeus, who had been blind for most of his life, who had been a beggar at the door of the rich and powerful, who had lost everything. When Jesus healed Bartimaeus the only response he could give was to respond in joy. When Jesus met the woman at the well, an outcast in her own community, the only response she could give was in joy. When we find our joy, we cannot be contained. The joy of your life transformed and renewed is a contagious joy. When we find joy, when we find the joy of new life, of new purpose, of resurrection, we can’t help but share the Good News! When we find the joy of grace, when we find the joy of hope, we are powerless to contain it. Joy, like her sister love, is best shared when it is given away. We then as a church, as followers of Jesus, must discover and rediscover again and again our joy in Jesus.
