Get to Know: St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Creve Coeur

"One of the first things I recognized [at St. Timothy's] was that all of these people genuinely love each other," said the Rev. Meghan Ryan, the new rector at St. Timothy's in Creve Coeur. "And I've come to see the thing that makes St. Timothy's unique is a true commitment to community -- to be in real relationship to Christ."

That focus on relationship and community is what drives the members of St. Tim's in their ministries, both inside and outside their church walls.

St. Timothy's sits in the heart of West St. Louis County and offers programming to appeal to West County's growing family population. Along with a traditional worship service at 10:45 each Sunday, St. Tim's also hosts a service especially for children and families at 9 a.m., with about 40 people attending each week. Sunday school is now kicking back into gear after the pandemic, with a renewed effort to engage volunteers to support this important ministry.

Music is another important ministry at St. Timothy's, with a large volunteer choir offering their songs of praise to the weekly worship services. The music ministry has been a significant part of parish life since the church was founded and continues to help define St. Tim's spiritual and community ethos week after week and month after month.

Building those strong relationships through ministry inside the church makes it possible for "Reaching Out" ministries to serve the community. St. Timothy's has adopted an Afghan refugee family that recently moved to St. Louis. The "A Team" is finding ways to work through language and cultural differences to help the family of nine get settled financially and socially in their new community.

St. Tim's also has a vibrant ministry of racial reconciliation. This team not only offers educational opportunities for the parish, but also gets involved in community social justice projects to advance the human dignity of all.

The congregation also helps feed the hungry through donations to the Circle of Concern Food Bank and supports Episcopal City Mission by hosting birthday parties for youth in detention.

"It's all these ministries that lend themselves to St. Timothy's gift of relationship," said the Rev. Meghan Ryan. "Deep fellowship is what they do very well."
