Dozens of Episcopal City Mission’s board members, staff, and friends showed up for this year’s “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” Walk-a-Thon on May 20 to raise funds for chaplaincy and programs for children in the juvenile justice system in St. Louis. Thanks to them, we surpassed our fundraising goal and raised more than $4,000!
It was a beautiful morning at SLUH’s track, and this year we added some friendly competitions to the day. Teams formed for “River Crossing” (and got MUCH better acquainted!). It was everyone for themself in the Balloon Stomp, and we witnessed Chaplain Norman’s competitive nature in the Sack Races. Runners kicked it into high gear for the 1-Mile Fun Run. Everyone had a great time competing for Cardinals baseball tickets!
Special thanks to ECM Board Chair Mary Ann Moore, and Board members Tim Grosch and Elizabeth Hines for helping plan and facilitate the event; to Jason Acklin for being our DJ; and to church staff and Parish Ambassadors for getting the word out. We were honored to be joined by St. Louis County Detention Center staff and by their donations. We’re grateful for support from local businesses and organizations. Chick-Fil-A (Hampton Ave.) donated boxed lunches; the St. Louis Cardinals donated tickets; University College at Washington University was on hand, represented by George Winston.
We look forward to seeing everyone next year! If you missed out on this year’s Walk-a-Thon, mark your calendar and plan to join us for our next fun event – “Moment in Time” Gala on Thursday, October 19, at the Forest Park Golf Clubhouse. Watch for more information coming soon!
