Diocesan Treasurer Transition
The Episcopal Diocese of Missouri has a new treasurer for the first time in 12 years.
Al Ludwig, a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Webster Groves, is now the Interim Treasurer for The Diocese of Missouri. Al has been a corporate attorney with the law firm of Lewis Rice LLC since 2007. His practice focuses on transactional work, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, entity structuring, real estate, finance and information technology. Al spent the last seven years as a delegate to Diocesan Convention from Emmanuel, and in that time has served on Diocesan Council, the Diocesan Investment Committee and as a Vice Chancellor to the Diocese.
Liz Yount, a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ladue, will serve as Assistant to the Treasurer. Liz is a CPA working in public accounting. Her area of expertise is in taxation, focusing on serving high net worth individuals, corporate executives and professional athletes - those with complex tax situations. Liz has served as delegate to Diocesan Convention for several years and is finishing her second term on Diocesan Council, where she has served on the budget committee the entire time and chaired the New Ventures in Community Ministries grant program. Liz is also serving her third term as a General Convention lay delegate.
Al and Liz are stepping into these volunteer positions following the retirement of Tom Hedrick, who has served as our diocesan treasurer for 12 years. Tom is a member of St. Peter's in Ladue. We are tremendously grateful to the professional dedication Tom has shared with this diocese during his tenure.
The treasurer for the diocese is appointed by the bishop, with the consent of Convention. If the office of Treasurer becomes vacant between meetings of Convention, an Interim Treasurer may be appointed by the Bishop, with advice and consent of Standing Committee, which is the case in this instance. Standing Committee approved these appointments at its January 28 meeting. Convention will be asked to officially approve the appointment at its meeting in November.
According to Canon III.8, the Treasurer serves as the financial advisor to the Bishop, Standing Committee, Diocesan Council and Convention and, upon request and if approved by the Bishop, to any Parish or Mission. The Treasurer also serves as the Chairman of the Finance Committee of the diocese.
