Annual Homecoming Celebration at St. John's, Eolia
St. John's Episcopal Church in Eolia may be a little off the beaten path, but people come from all over the country every fall to celebrate this historic parish.
Approximately 40 members and guests gathered on Sunday, Oct. 3 for St. John's homecoming celebration. The Rev. Canon Doris Westfall, Canon to the Ordinary, was the guest preacher for the event. Following worship, the crowd gathered on the lawn to share a delicious meal and lots of great memories.
People came from Texas, Colorado, Iowa and Cape Cod. Just about everyone in attendance has a long time family relationship to St. John's or has family members buried in the cemetery.
St. John's Episcopal Church sits in the middle of farmland, just outside the small town of Eolia (between St. Louis and Hannibal). It is the oldest church building in The Diocese of Missouri. The Rev. Michael Nchimbe leads the congregation.
