Anglican Order of Preachers (Dominicans)
The Anglican Order of Preachers (Dominicans) will be holding their annual Chapter August 3-6, 2022, at The Mercy Retreat Center in St. Louis. Highlight of Chapter will be The Profession Mass at Christ Church Cathedral scheduled on Friday, August 5 at 5 p.m., at which time candidates who have completed their two year Novitiate formation will make their Life Profession. The Profession Mass will be livestreamed and can be accessed via a link under Special Services on the Cathedral website: www.christchurchcsthedral.us.
Please join the Friars and Sisters for the Profession Mass, on Friday at 5 p.m. at The Cathedral, or for any of the liturgies and programs at the Mercy Center.
On Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 9 a.m., Sr. Rosie Castelli OP will be presenting a Christian Formation Forum entitled “Seeking God in All Things: The Spiritual Lessons of the Dominican Rhineland Mystics."
A form of The New Monasticism, The Anglican Order of Preachers is a Dominican Religious Community established under the Canons of The Episcopal Church. Members are lay and ordained, men and women, married and single without distinction. They are a dispersed community, living and ministering in their respective dioceses, parishes, and communities. Those who may not be in a position to undertake the vows of a Friar or Sister may affiliate with the order as Oblates or Associates.
Anglican Dominicans make Vows of “Simplicity, Purity and Obedience,” which are a contemporary adaptation of the traditional Apostolic Vows to the nature of the community. The Order’s Rule of Life, in The Dominican Tradition, is derived from “The Rule of St. Augustine,” the traditional Dominican motto, “To Praise, To Bless, To Preach,” and the “Four Pillars” of Dominican Life “Prayer, Community, Study and Preaching.”
The Order celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019, and has grown to over 125 members throughout the Anglican Communion, from Hungary and the UK in Europe, the Arctic Circle to Brazil in the Americas, the Philippines to Australia, and West to New Delhi in the Indo-Pacific. Anglican Dominicans are organized into houses based primarily on geographic location. They have an annual Chapter Meeting, attended both in person and virtually, and the houses may have activities as well. Being dispersed, they do a great deal of our formation and interaction via the internet. This year a total of 11 Postulants will receive the Habit as Novices and seven will make their Life Profession at Chapter or in their respective parishes and diocese for those unable to be present in St. Louis. The Order has a public website, and also an order website used for internal communications to maintain the community of the houses and the order in general. Much of the formation of Postulants and Novices is done online via directed study within the online community represented by the class.
If you would like to have more information about attending any of the activities of Chapter or about The Anglican Order of Preachers, please contact Cathedral parishioner Br. Franklin Kline, OP at [email protected].
