A Journey Through Advent: Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021
by the Rev. Amy Fallon,
Vicar of Trinity Episcopal Church, Kirksville
Today's readings: Psalm 80:1-7 or Canticle 15; Micha 5:2-5a; Luke 1:39:55
I love the Advent cycle of readings from the Minor Prophets, the guys with the cool names like Obadiah and Haggai. Their books are usually short which makes their writing seem more personal to me. In today’s passage, Micah announces that a new ruler is coming, one who will stand strong in defense of the people of Israel and shall be great to the ends of the earth, but he also “shall come forth for me.”
It is nice to know that God is in charge of the world. I am concerned about global and national matters, and I do what I can to influence them. But more of my time is spent worrying about whether I have milk for my coffee, how I can in three places at the same time, how my sister is doing. I need to know that God cares about me, that the peace God brings is not just for the big matters of life, but for my very little ones as well. God will do great things not just about great things, but even about the smallest ones as well, all for me, and for you.
