Parents ask...What if my child is a first-time camper? It's tough to send a child to camp for the first time. Reassure your child that caring adults will be there. Talk about all the fun things to do at camp. Tuck a family photo or stuffed animal into you child's backpack. Ask a friend to go. And remember, all of our campers were once first-timers, and they are eager to share their knowledge with newcomers.
What about medications and medical emergencies? You'll complete a health history form once your child is registered. A camp nurse reviews the history and administers all medications. In an emergency, a medical first-response unit is 5 minutes from camp. The nearest hospital is in Nashville, IL.
What if my child doesn't swim?Lifeguards swim-test all campers. Those that can’t swim well are limited to a roped shallow area. Lifeguards supervise swimming at all times. Swimmers use the buddy system. If a camper chooses not to swim, we provide supervised alternative activities.
Will my child be safe? The health, safety and well being of each camper are extremely important. Camp Phoenix is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). It meets or exceeds standards for facilities, safety and staff training set by the ACA.
All of our paid and volunteer workers are trained and screened according to the guidelines of the Episcopal Church's National Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy. Our camp is smoke-free, weapon-free, and drug-free.
