The Episcopal Church Women is one of the oldest organizations in the Church and is open to all women in the Church. It is a service organization that also provides sisterhood for women who may come from diverse backgrounds but share a common faith. Many congregations have local chapters that come together once a year at the diocesan for an annual meeting and work together throughout the year on common projects. 2006 Annual MeetingThe annual meeting of the Episcopal Church Women will be Oct. 21 at St. Barnabas', 2900 St. Catherine, Florissant. The day begins with a social hour at 9 a.m. with Holy Eucharist at 10 and followed by the business meeting at 11:15 and lunch at 12:30 p.m. The afternoon speaker has not been announced. Karen Birr elected presidentKaren Birr, a member of St. Barnabas'/Florissant, was elected president of the diocesan Episcopal Church Women at its annual meeting in October 2005. St. Paul's/Sikeston member an 'Honored Woman'Lynn Feeler, a member of St. Paul's in Sikeston, was among the Honored Women recognized by the Triennial Meeting of the Episcopal Church Women June 16 in Columbus, Ohio. One woman from each diocese was presented by the delegates to the meeting as "models of Christian life" who "walks in the ways of God in the Church and the community" and "uses her God-given gifts in all she is and all she does." Feeler, among other things, is a Eucharistic minister and worship leader at St. Paul's. ECW offers scholarship for college womenThe ECW in the Diocese of Missouri offers a scholarship for women in financial need who are members of an Episcopal congregation in the Diocese and who will be in their second year of post-high school education studying toward a degree or certificate in a field of service to others.
