A New Way of Being Church: Bishop Greg Rickel at Flower Festival May 2 & 3 (2009)

In the beauty of our cathedral, surrounded by the “goodness of God” represented by the plants and flowers from Missouri Botanical Gardens, this year’s Flower Festival homilist Bishop Greg Rickel will explore the deeply connected issues of economic and environmental crisis with questions:

  • In Genesis we are told that humankind is to have “dominion” over the earth. What does this mean and what has it wrought?
  • One of my favorite sayings I was found on a tip jar in a coffee shop. It read, ‘If you fear change, leave it here!’ We are now in a time where we will have to change, and there is much fear, reaction, and entrenching surrounding that fear. What is the Church’s role in thi
  • How can we be examples to the world, instead of merely falling in with the world?
  • Could this time actually be a fertile ground for the Holy Spirit to move us to a new way of being Church, and a new way of walking on this earth? And, best of all, might we have fun and actually grow closer to one another doing it?

12:30-4:00 Street fair, educational displays, drumming events
7:30 p.m.Collegium Vocale, free concert of Baroque music with voice and historic instruments

Sunday:
9:00, 11:15, Bishop Rickel preaches at cathedral services
5:00 p.m., Evensong with the Cathedral Choir and the Choir of First Congregational Church, St. Louis.

Newly added Compline services at Trinity-CWE (2009)

Trinity Church-Central West End is beginning a monthly Compline service on the third Sunday of each month, 8:00 p.m. beginning Sunday, March 15. The service features the beautiful language of the Book of Common Prayer, scripture, silence, and simple music.

Following the service everyone will be invited to go to a local pub for refreshments of choice. Trinity is located at Euclid and Washington in the Central West End.

The 117th annual Flower Festival will be celebrated at Christ Church Cathedral on May 2-3, 2009. We are pleased to announce the Festival sermon will be preached by the Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel.  Rickel was consecrated bishop on September 15, 2007; the eighth Bishop of Olympia. (more…)

Inauguration Day Prayers, Christ Church Cathedral, 1/20 (2009)

On Tuesday, January 20, 2009, Christ Church Cathedral will hold a Prayer Service for our nation, outgoing President George Bush, and for President-elect Barack Obama. This service will begin at 9 am. Immediately following will be a viewing of the Inaugural Ceremonies.
Throughout the day, the Cathedral will be open for anyone who wishes to stop by and offer a prayer.

Ecumenical Prayer Service celebrates
Annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity For St. Charles County in Lake St. Louis
Sunday, January 18, 2009
3:00 PM
Seven local congregations representing the Roman Catholic Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church, United Church of Christ, The Episcopal Church, Presbyterian Church and United Methodist Church will come together for an Ecumenical celebration worship service.

The service will be held as part of the area’s observance of the Annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and take place at Living Lord Lutheran Church, 500 Cedar Circle Drive (just off Hwy 40), Lake St. Louis, MO 63367. (more…)
