Renewal of Ministry at Trinity Church Kirksville

Trinity Kirksville turned out to welcome new vicar Johnnette Shane with the Renewal of Ministry celebration last Wednesday. The invitations included a note: music begins at 6:15 PM. Not a typo, as one parishioner explained, at Trinity we do music! The festive concert included anthems, songs, and congregational sung hymns directed by Scott Alberts. Parishioner Maria Evans wrote and read a poem for the occasion (included below). (more…)

Diocesan Youth Missioner Jonathan Stratton Convenes Youth Commission

Longtime diocesan priest Arthur Steidemann dies: Long legacy of advocacy for the disenfranchised

The Holy Eucharist and Celebration of the Life and Ministry of Arthur Steidemann will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Grace Episcopal Church, 514 E. Argonne in Kirkwood, the Rt. Rev. Wayne Smith presiding, the Rev Emily Hillquist Davis, preaching.

May 16, 1915 – September 17, 2010

The Rev. Arthur Richard Steidemann died on September 17, 2010. He was 95 years old.

Arthur Steidemann was born May 16, 1915, in north St. Louis, the son of Arthur O. Steidemann and Hazel Wasson Steidemann. His father was an architectural draftsman who became an Episcopal priest in 1929. Both parents were completely deaf, having lost their hearing due to childhood diseases. (more…)

We are creating community in Jesus Christ, how do we do that? began Barbara Willock (teaching Old Testament during fall term at ESM) is one of the last of the founding faculty of ESM still teaching. The history of ESM begins with the episcopacy of Hays Rockwell and the need to form more deacons for the diocese. Warren Crews designed the beginning model which Willock said was based on an English model of education: small groups that live and study together. The role of ESM has expanded; the clear intention is to shape leaders of the Church in the Episcopal ethos.

“God works in community,” continued Willock. “In the ESM community, worship is integral to our time together. Regular worship, that marks the time and the days. We are a people formed around the table.” (more…)

One Hundred Years of Worship and Service: St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Portland, MO, 1910 – 2010

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Portland, Missouri, held its first services in a brand new building in April, 1910, continuing the Christian and Episcopalian witness and ministry offered in Portland by the St. Mark’s School for Boys from 1890 to 1899.
