Monday, February 8th, 2010

Sunday, February 14, Trinity Episcopal Church, 124 North Mulanix St. in Kirksville, is having a Haitian Kanaval Dinner to raise money for the earthquake victims in Haiti and to mark the beginning of Lent.

“Haitians celebrate three fat days, trois joursgras, or Kanaval, and so will we,” said Scott Alberts, Trinity choir director and the dinner’s organizer. “They go from Mass until Wednesday morning nonstop, so our custom of a Sunday party is perfect. We don’t just want to help Haiti, we want to celebrate Haiti.” (more…)

39th Annual Spring Luncheon, Christ Church-Rolla, 4/24 (2009)

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

The Episcopal Church Women have an annual spring luncheon to raise money for the church and other outreach programs. This is the 39th year. ECW makes donations to our local Russell House (womens shelter), GRACE (Greater Rolla Area Charitable Enterprise), Christ Church building fund (2004 -2009), and Christ Church Library among other things.

Parishioner Joan Aronstam writes, “There was some discussion about whether it was worth continuing this event this year. But it was unanimous; it serves to bring all the women in the church out to work together. Indeed, it is a fellowship event.”

ECW at Rolla is a small group that meets each month, but most of the women in the church help with the two big events, Holiday Cookie Walk Bazaar and the Spring Luncheon.

This year’s Luncheon is named “Salute to Salads.”

Annie Rayman recently told us, “When I attended the diocese convention, I was surprised how little any one knew about our organization’s mission and work!”

CPC has two major initiatives. Miles of Pennies collects monies for children’s books. Each grant is for $844.80, or the amount of one mile of pennies laid flat. The other program CPC collects for is their National Book Funds initiative. This fund is designated for adults and helps many seminarians from abroad studying in the U.S. Annie reports that the greatest request is often for this grant and, “our funds were low this year.” (more…)
