The Pew Project: Camp Phoenix needs our help! (2009)

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

At Camp Phoenix’s May workday ground was cleared and there is now a  new chapel site at the DuBois Center. An altar is being built, needed are the pews.  “If each church would build one bench (or donate enough money to purchase materials) we could seat all our campers and parents in the chapel area,” reported the Camp’s director, Bob Daniels. Benches can be decorated as the parish builders like, and would be a great reminder of the support the diocesan family has for our youth.  Bob will make arrangements to pick up benches before camp opens (all benches should be finished by July 15).

Camp Phoenix Hosted 85 Campers

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Eighty-five campers from around the state, and as far as Chicago and Kansas City participated July 29-August 4 at Camp Phoenix. Children, like the 15 at camp from St. Stephen’s, Ferguson, loved seeing their clergy, the Rev. Steve Lawler, and Pastoral Intern Stephen Robin who visited, led songs, and joined them for a portion of their camp experience. Bishop Wayne Smith also talked to the children about mission on Friday, and gave a presentation on our Companion Relationship with Lui Sudan. To see Camp’s latest photo gallery go to http://www.diocesemo.org/whatwedo/education/campphoenix/ and click on the 2007 gallery link.

On Saturday, campers’ parents and family members joined them for a final camp Eucharist: the largest gathering of Episcopalians from around the state this summer with over 250 participants.
