The nineteenth annual Calvary Episcopal Charity Horse Show will be held at the Midway Exposition Center, Columbia. Proceeds benefit, among others, the Central Missouri Humane Society, which helps protect the animal population of mid-Missouri by offering pet adoption; assistance to stray or surrendered animals; and low-cost vaccination and spay/neuter services.
One of Columbia’s most beloved charities, the Central Missouri Humane Society (CMHS) faces a critical need for more funds to expand its facilities to serve the community’s increasing requirements. This year’s proceeds will also benefit the Family Dental Center as well as a local food pantry that helps families in financial need.
The Calvary Episcopal Charity Horse Show has a long history of supporting worthy community groups and has raised over $250,000 during its lifetime.
This year some of the state’s best riders will compete for college scholarships through the Missouri Horse Show Association’s Medallion Finals. The show has strong representation from American Saddlebred competitors and also includes Western and English (hunt seat) riding and driving classes. There’s even a costume event and a stable dog competition. Other special events include a Saturday morning program for young artists conducted by equine artist Carol Friel, who specializes in making horsehair bracelets. (Horsehair will be provided to those who cannot bring their own samples.)
The event is held at the Midway Exposition Center, 6401 Highway 40 W, just fifteen minutes from downtown Columbia. Show times are October 15-16, starting at 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.; October 17, starting at 9:30 a.m.; and October 18, starting at 8:00 a.m. Admission is free.
