Dr. Peg Cooper, Diocesan United Thank Offering (UTO) Coordinator, is delighted to bring news from the recently concluded Triennial meeting of the Episcopal Church Women in Anaheim that Episcopal City Mission has been awarded a $6500 grant for Interactive Chapel Services for Juvenile Detention Centers.
Chapel services held in the three juvenile detention centers in St. Louis City and County are one of the important duties of the chaplains from Episcopal City Mission. A sacred space is created in the gym at one center, in the cafeteria in another, and in a classroom in the third center.
$6,500.00 was granted to cover the cost of laptop computers, projectors and screen to enrich the weekly services offered. Also included is a training component for ECM staff.
Cooper congratulated ECM Executive Director Mary Kay Digby and added, “Not all the grants submitted to the National Committee were so successful.”
The United Thank Offering is a program of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole Church, founded by and administered by women since 1889. UTO is entrusted to promote thank offerings, to receive the offerings, and to distribute the United Thank Offering monies through grants. The Committee awards and administers these grants within the framework of the policies and procedures of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society (DFMS) of The Episcopal Church
UTO’s Vision is “We will significantly impact the lives of women and children because of Christ’s love.”
