There are many horrific stories coming from the Sudan; details are often sparse and hard to process. Some recent articles from the national church:
- Presiding Bishop urges action to end Lord’s Resistance Army attacks
- Sudanese archbishop appeals to fellow primates for urgent support
The Rev. Mike Kinman posted Advocacy Action to Help the People of Lui and Mundri
- The Rev. Dan Handschy, rector of Church of the Advent in Crestwood and part of the mission team that recently returned from Lui, has been in touch with the Episcopal Office of Government Relations in Washington and will continue to relay their counsel as to how we can best use our political power to pressure our government to enforce the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
Our diocesan Mission team reported that they spoke with Lui Diocese secretary Vasco on 2/12. He is currently in Juba and thought we would want to know the following:
The LRA has not crossed the Yei River into Lui Diocese, and despite the “and now Lui” news reports, the only effect on our companion diocese is the flood of IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons).
Bishop Bullen is currently in Lui making his confirmation rounds. Vasco told us where he’s been and where he’s going, he’ll be visiting the areas affected by IDPs.
At our staff meeting yesterday Bishop Smith told us that current estimates of the IDP population in two villages is 1500 persons. Resources already in short supply are critically short, especially in the hospital.
Please keep the faithful people of our companion diocese in your prayers, and consider making a donation through the diocesan website. You can specify Lui-unrestricted. We wire money directly to the Lui Diocese account.
