OVERVIEW
Since 2005, the Companion Diocese Committee has been privileged to support and guide the mission of the Diocese of Missouri in companion relationship with the Diocese of Lui, Southern Sudan. Working in tandem with Debbie Smith (mission and communications coordinator for Lui), Bishop Smith and the Diocese of Lui, we support the strengthening of the companion relationship.
One of the CDC’s main objectives is to ‘seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves’ by coordinating regular mission trips to Lui, allowing Missouri Episcopalians to encounter and serve Christ in new ways. Also, the CDC ‘proclaim(s) by word and example the Good News of God in Christ,’ by communicating news and stories between Lui and Missouri. Finally, the CDC also helps to coordinate fundraising, advocacy and (most importantly) prayers for the people of Lui.
The results of the CDC’s work, and that of the people of the Diocese of Missouri, are clear. Since 2005, dozens have traveled to and from Lui. Over $300,000 has been raised to improve the quality of life in Lui, and countless prayers have been lifted up for our Sudanese partners. The balance of this report will share some specifics of this work from 2010.
